Larry D. Shannon, 71, a lifelong resident of Monon, passed away at 2:44 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. He had been battling cancer for the last three years.
He was born September 3, 1941, in Jasper Countyto the late Melvin "Bud" and Neomi (Cade) Shannon and was a 1960 graduate of Monon High School. He also attended Purdue University.
His marriage was to Connie Culp on April 28, 1963, in the Lee United Methodist Church. She survives.
Mr. Shannon was a lifelong farmer of both grain and livestock. He was an avid supporter of 4H in White and Pulaski Countiesand was a 12 year board member as well as past President of the fair board. Larry loved to watch and mentor his children and grandchildren and was proud that all of his children and several grandchildren were 10 year members.
He was a member of the Francesville First Christian Church.
Larry had a great sense of humor and would often assign special nicknames, which had a habit of sticking, to many of his friends. He was a very caring, loving and generous person and will be greatly missed.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Leah (husband: Wilbur) Miller, of Francesville, Jessica (husband: Jerry) Frasa, of Winamac and Anita (husband: Phillip) Messer, of Francesville; a son, Cary (wife: Jill) Shannon, of Monon; and a sister, Peggy Crawford, of Valparaiso.
Larry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Shannon, Justin, Jacob, Raquel (husband: A.J.), Levi, Ethan, and Eli; his two step-grandchildren, Vernon (wife: Ruth) and Mary; and his two great-grandchildren, Liberty"Little Britches" and Edyson. Also surviving are 8 nephews and 3 Nieces.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Clapper Family Funeral Home of Monon. Service there 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2012,; Mr. Jim Ketchen to officiate. Interment to follow in Monon Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Francesville Christian Church or the Pulaski County Fair - 4H Fund.
