Lewis "Lew" Kressley, 93, of Flora, died at his residence Sat-Oct 5, 2013 at 2:45 pm. He was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Democrat Township, Carroll County, IN, to the late Edward & Inez Wilson Kressley. His marriage was to Jean Plunkett in Flora on June 14, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Feb 20, 2000. He was a 1939 graduate of the former Cutler High School, and a WW II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1940-1945, as a staff Sargent, and was wounded at the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945, receiving the Purple Heart. When he returned home from the war, he worked at H&H Studebaker Sales in Burlington, then was a line mechanic for Mann Chevrolet Inc. of Flora, from 1952 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the New Hope Community Church in Flora; Flora Lions Club, and was a past director of the club; Life member of the Delphi American Legion Post #75. He enjoyed fishing, and mushroom hunting, traveling, woodworking, refinishing and repairing antique furniture. He dearly loved his family, and all of the quality family gatherings they had. Surviving: son-Tom & Jill Kressley of Flora; grandsons: Eric & Stephanie Kressley of Flora and Brook & Melissa Kressley of Pittsburgh, PA; great grandchildren: Taylor, Kiersten, and Cameron Kressley; sisters: Delores Groninger of Sabina, OH and Phyllis Smith of Flora. Preceded in death by 2 sisters Helen & Minnie Lou. Services: Friends may call Tuesday 5-8pm at Baker-Abbott Funeral Home, Flora. Funeral service Wednesday 10:30am at New Hope Community Church-Flora, Pastor Scott Gamel officiating. Burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery-Flora, with full military rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
