Mary Cecelia Surface Obituary
Mary Cecelia (Loner) Surface

Mary Cecelia (Loner) Surface of Logansport, who was born on February 21, 1918, was called Home to be with our God on January 21, 2014, at the age of 95 while residing at St. Anthony's Health Care in Lafayette.

In 1943 Mary was married to Walter T. Surface who is deceased.

Mary's greatest loves were her children: Mary Martin of S. Carolina, Michael of BC Canada, Anthony (Donneta) of Logansport, Rosella of Lafayette, Paul of Florida, Christine Collins of Galveston and Jacinta (Marty) Irwin of Florida.

Mary lost her "sweet little boy" Daniel in 1954 who was almost 3 years of age. To carry Mary through this tragic loss was her love for God, her devotion to her Catholic faith, and her seven living children.

Mary's parents, William P. and Mary K. (Schmaltz) Loner of Logansport, had 8 children and Mary was the last remaining child of this union.

Deceased brothers were Joseph, John, Lawrence, Herman, Paul, Fr. George, and her sister, Catherine.

Mary has 2 sisters-in-law still residing in Logansport, Angele and Patty Loner. She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love her very much and Mary had a special bond with her autistic grandson, Donald.

Mary was a very hard worker all of her life and did volunteer work after retiring. She enjoyed making rosaries in honor of Our Blessed Mother to whom she had a great devotion.

A funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at All Saints Church in Logansport. Services will start at 9:30 a. m. with the rosary being said before Mass.

Burial will be at Saint Vincent Cemetery, Logansport.

Mary requested that instead of flowers, that a memorial contribution be made for the poor, especially the poor in Haiti.

Kroeger Funeral Home, Logansport, is in charge of arrangements.
