Attica - Maxine Marie (Mornout) Fix, 90, of Attica, passed away at the Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Williamsport, on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 3:20 p.m.
Maxine was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on January 17, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Nettie (VanDame) Mornout. Maxine had lived all of her life in Attica, before going into the nursing center in Williamsport. She was a 1941 graduate of Attica High School. Maxine formerly worked at Radio Material Corp. in Attica and prior to that had worked as a receptionist for Dr. John Fisher in Attica.
Maxine was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica. She was a former member of the Attica Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and doing ceramics. Maxine loved to pass the time by watching old movies.
In 1941, Maxine represented Attica in the Indiana Corn Queen Festival.
As "Miss Attica," she was named runner-up to "Miss Lafayette."
On June 12, 1947, Maxine married James L. Fix in Covington. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2005.
Maxine leaves behind her two daughters, Linda Fix (companion-John Miller), Linden, IN; Janet (Tom) Schmid, Attica; two grandsons, Eric Schmid, Indianapolis and Theron Schmid, Attica. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Dale and Richard Mornout.
A funeral Mass will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Church, in Attica, on Monday, October 28th, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery, near Ambia. Friends may call at the church on Monday, from 11:00 a.m. until the rosary service at 12:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made for Masses or to The Huntington Foundation or Paws 'n Claws.
