Melvin L. "Boob" Salla, 88, a lifelong resident of Earl Park, died at 7:47 a.m. (CST), Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Jasper County Hospital of Rensselaer.
He was born July 10, 1924, in Earl Park to the late George and Dorothy (Benner) Salla. He attended Earl Park High School.
His first marriage was to Francis L. Cutter on November 25, 1948. She preceded him in death on September 22, 1955.
On May 2, 1959, Melvin married Antoinette "Toni" Francis Zink in St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Lafayette. She survives.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Earl Park. Holding several jobs throughout his life, Melvin was a very hard worker. He farmed for several years and retired from Demeter, Inc. in 1985.
He enjoyed fishing, yard work, road farming, and gardening. Melvin loved spending time with his family during the holidays and family reunions.
Surviving Melvin along with his wife are children, Louis Salla (wife: Carol) of Attica, Michael Salla (wife: Kim) of Union, KY, Karl Salla of Earl Park, Eilene Meding of Earl Park, Jeanette Peck (husband: Troy) of Fowler; daughters-in-law, Cori Salla of Lowell, Lori Salla of Somerset, KY; sister, Marie (Salla) Wiese of Muncie; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and children, Keith Salla, Cletus Salla, Matthew Salla, Gene Salla; and siblings, Ralph Salla, Cyril Salla, Leonard Salla, Marvin Salla, Agnes Mathews, and Evelyn Lowry.
Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. Rosary Services will begin prior to the visitation at 3:45 p.m. EDT.
Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. EDT, Thursday, June 20, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Earl Park. Interment to follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery of Earl Park.
