Peggy J. Dunderman Martin, 85

Peggy J. Dunderman Martin, 85, of rural Camden, died at 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. She had been a resident there since June 8, and in declining health. She was born Mar 10, 1927, in Babson Park, Fla., to the late Gale and Dorothy Phillips Dunderman. Her marriage was to William J. Martin in Logansport, at the Wheatland Ave. United Methodist Church, on August 31, 1947, and he survives.

She was a 1945 graduate of Logansport High School; graduated from the former Kendall College in Evanston, Ill.; and Indiana University-Kokomo, with a degree in psychology. She helped her husband on their family farm, worked at the Area 4 and 5 Council on Aging in Cass and Carroll Counties, the Anderson's Grain Elevator, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Burrows Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Women, a Sunday school teacher, longtime choir director, taught vacation bible school, and the Liberty Bells Home Ec Club-holding many of the offices. She was a prize winning poet, a State of Indiana Laureate, and belonged to the National Poetry Association. She was a member of the Carroll Chapter 475 Order of the Eastern Star, and a former Tri Kappa Sorority member. She has played the Cello since age 10, and performed with the Logansport Symphony, and also played with the Sebring, Fla., symphony.

Surviving are her husband, William J. Martin, of rural Camden; daughters, Conny and Jerry Amstutz, of Leo, Ind. and Carolyn and Robin Maxwell, of rural Camden; sons, William "Mike" and Sonya Martin, Abbeville, S.C., Richard Martin, of Burrows and Christopher and April Martin, of rural Camden; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by 1 brother, 1 sister and Leanna Martin, the wife of a grandson.

A memorial service will be Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the Burrows Presbyterian Church, with the family receiving friends from 12 p.m. until the Memorial at 2 p.m.; the Rev. Carolyn DeWitt, John and Sally Gilbert officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Burrows Presbyterian Church, or donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the church.
