Lt. Col. Perry O. Black, 95, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in Brazil, Indiana. He had formerly lived in Lafayette. Perry was born July 10, 1918, in Terre Haute to the late Perry and Edna Burbidge Black. He graduated from Purdue University in 1940. Perry served in the United States Air Force in WWII and Korea retiring after 28 years as a Lt. Colonel. He was a Navigator on 69 bomber missions and received 12 Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Perry taught Vocational Agriculture and Industrial Arts in the Lafayette area. He retired in 1980 as Senior Editor for ITT Publishing. He was a life member of American Legion Post #11, VFW 1154, Retired Officers Association and Reserve Officers Association. Perry was preceded in death by three wives, Martha Kiger Black, Eunice Black and Mary Ellen Black and a brother Norman Black.
Surviving are step children Harold Baker and Susan Baker both of Winter Haven, FL, Kenneth Baker of Tallahassee, FL, Phyllis Miller of Smithville, MO, several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are several cousins including Leonard Stultz of Terre Haute and a sister-in-law Louise Newnum of Kingman.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to a 1:30 PM service Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Entombment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Sign the guest book and leave memories at www.soller-baker.com
