Ramon Del Real, Sr., 93, of Lafayette, moved on to eternal life on Monday, November 4, 2013 at St. Anthony Health Care. Born September 13, 1920 in Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, he was the son of the late Nicolas Del Real and Mercedes Gaytan.
Ramon married Maria G. Carrillo on May 1942 in Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico and she survives. He farmed and was an operator at the Inland Steel Mill for 11 years. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, baseball, rodeos, and bull riding.
Surviving with his wife are his four daughters, Mercedes Muñoz (husband, Daniel) of Lafayette, Maria De Jesus Alvarez (husband, Adan) of Whiting, IN, Maria Del Refugio Muñoz (husband, Ignacio) of Lafayette, and Maria Guadalupe Vallejo of Hammond, IN; four sons, Nicolas Del Real (wife, Rosario) of Whiting, IN, Juan Diego Del Real (wife, Luz Maria) of South Chicago, Juan Francisco Del Real (wife, Delia) of Lafayette, and Ramon Del Real, Jr. (wife, Emily) of Lafayette; and two sisters, Lidia Gutierrrez of Seattle, WA and Soledad Del Real of Mexico. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, and a great-grandchild, Tony Casas.
Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Rosary at 5 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Clayton Thompson officiating. Burial to follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
