Raymond N. Snellenbarger, 61

New Richmond - Raymond N. Snellenbarger, age 61, of New Richmond, died unexpectedly, Thursday evening, 11:45 p.m. in the emergency room, St. Elizabeth Crawfordsville (St. Clare) Hospital. Raymond was born in Montgomery County, May 10, 1951 son of the late David N. and Doris Martin Snellenbarger. He had remained a life resident of Montgomery County.

Raymond graduated from Coal Creek Central High School and enlisted in the United States Army and served 8 ½ years during the Viet Nam Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he worked locally for many years. For several years he operated Raymond's Barns and he took pride in restoring old barns to original condition. He formerly was employed by the Montgomery County Highway Department and the former Skelton-Skinner Lumber Company in Romney. He was a former member of the New Richmond United Methodist Church.

Raymond was proud of his military service and was active in veteran affairs. He formerly served as Adjutant of Mary T. Klinker Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, Lafayette. He spent many hours at the Indiana Veterans Home assisting veterans seek and apply for benefits. He had been involved in Smiles Unlimited and his clown name was Smudge. Raymond never knew a stranger and was a 'colorful character'!

Surviving are his companion April Curtis, twin sisters: Karen S. Cotton and Sharon A. Reamer, both of Lafayette. Two brothers: David (Jana) Snellenbarger of Greencastle and Dale (Marsha) Snellenbarger of Crawfordsville. Several nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Raymond's family will greet guests, Monday, April 22, 2013 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, from 12:00 noon until his funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Alan Goff officiating. Burial will follow in New Richmond Cemetery with military honors by Crawfordsville American Legion/VFW. Memorial contributions may best made to Disabled American Veterans Association.
