Roy Emerson Conley Sr.

Roy Conley passed away January 6, 2013, to be reunited with his family in heaven. Born to Vivian I. Bryant and John E. Conley in Bedford, Indiana on January 6, 1940, he married Sandra L. Jorgensen on September 28, 1972. They just celebrated 40 years of marriage. She survives. Also surviving is a sister, Patricia Hopping (Rex); a daughter, Jennifer Conley-Miller (Jim); a son, Roy E. Conley Jr. (Rita) and adopted daughter, Adina Vogt (Sam); nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also raised one granddaughter, Christina Fritts.

Preceding him in death are his daughter Carrie Conley in 1995 and son Chris Conley in 2006.

He attended Bedford schools. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1965. He was a Vietnam era Navy Seal during his time in service. He began painting signs for Johnny Signs in Lafayette. In later years he owned Associated Crafts. He painted signs, motorcycles, racecars, was a welder, built homes and furniture. He was a very talented painter and carpenter.

Roy loved to tell jokes and was very strongly opinionated. Everyone he encountered always knew how he felt with his colorful choice of words. Roy was a book of knowledge and helped anyone that would ask for his help. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, genealogy and most of all the love, memories and pictures of his close family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Home with Pastor John Stacy and Pastor Jennifer Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
