Violet Ruby Sterner, 102, a former long time resident of Chalmers, passed away 2:00 a.m. July 9, 2013 at Consulate Nursing Home of Sarasota, Florida.
She was born June 8, 1911 in Chalmers to the late Jess and Josephine (Shigley) Coffel.
Her marriage was to Clifford Sterner on September 22, 1928 in Monticello. He died March of 1994.
Mrs. Sterner was a member of the Chalmers Community Church and enjoyed playing BUNKO with the ladies in town.
She worked at Purdue University in housekeeping for 14 years until retiring. Prior to that she was a homemaker.
Surviving are a son, Norman Sterner (wife: Joyce) of Sarasota, Florida; and her grandchildren, Charles Sterner of Sarasota, Tina Yenna (husband: Steve) also of Sarasota and Kevin Sterner of Calumet, Michigan. Also surviving are 3 great-grandchildren, Tim Yenna, Chris Yenna (wife: Tina Marie) and Heather Sterner and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Zaden and Taylor Yenna.
Violet loved to watch Indiana University Basketball and play BINGO.
Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are a son, Gordon Sterner; a brother, Charles Coffel and two sisters, Ruth Bertam and Vivian Newhouse.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at Chalmers Community Cemetery; Pastor Bill Henderson to officiate.
