Diana L. (Hays) Vahle, 64, of Brookston, IN, passed away at IU Health Hospital at 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Born December 22, 1949 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Earl E. and Marian (Gregory) Hays. She married John Vahle on August 21, 1976 in Lafayette and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2009.
Diana had worked at Brown Rubber in Lafayette, Smitty's Grocery in West Lafayette and Tru-Flight Arrows in Monticello. She was a member of VFW #1154 Auxiliary in Lafayette and Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Delphi. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, get away trips with her sisters, and flower gardening. She loved Culvers, casinos, and "Chick Flicks". She was an avid Purdue Boilermaker fan. Diana was known as
"Teacher Diana" at the Purple Turtle in Delphi and "Princess Diana" at Horizon Oncology.
Surviving are her two sisters, Carolyn Baumis (husband, Don) of Lafayette and Sandie Myer (husband, Bob) of Lake Tippecanoe; four grandchildren, Brandon Wilcox, Miranda Northrup, Justin Northrup (wife, Mary), and Kayla Northrup all of Lafayette; and a great-grandson, Carter Northrup. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter Wendy Northrup and a brother Richard "Dick" Hays.
Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Barb Marshall officiating.
