Maxine Meredith, 93

Attica - Lois Maxine (Pevler) Meredith, 93, Attica, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 9:53 p.m. in the Woodland Manor Nursing, Attica.

Maxine was born in Wingate, Indiana, on August 20, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Carl C. and Golda (French) Pevler. Maxine was raised in Wingate, graduating from Wingate High School in 1938. She has resided in Attica since 1948.

Maxine worked as a nursing assistant to Dr. P.R. Petrich in Attica for 53 years. She retired at the age of 87.

She had attended the Attica First United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Attica. She enjoyed playing bridge, yahtzee and bunco. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maxine was first married to Oliver E. Fouts in December of 1942 in San Antonio, TX. Oliver was killed in action in 1945 during WW II. Maxine later married James A. Meredith on September 5, 1948 in Attica. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1993.

Maxine leaves behind her daughter, Teri-Ann Fouts (William) Slauter, Noblesville, IN; two grandchildren, Brian A. Slauter, Attica and Kristin L. Gates (Mike) Barrett, Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Zach R. Slauter, Jessica L. Barrett and Jack Barrett. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jaime Meredith Gates.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, July 2nd from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica,
