Katherine L. Welborn

Katherine L. Welborn, 95, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Heritage Healthcare. She was born to the late Michael C. Mellon and Eleanore (Hanna) Mellon. Katherine graduated from Wolcott High School in 1938. On April 15, 1944, she married Robert E. Welborn in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1989. Katherine worked as a bookkeeper for Lafayette Metal Processors until her retirement. She had previously been a co-owner of Powerhouse Package Liquors in Florida. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and past member of the Elks and Moose Lodges in Florida and the American Legion, VFW, and the Navy Club Ladies Auxiliary of Lafayette. Katherine enjoyed traveling, dancing, reading, and being a homemaker.

Surviving are her sons, Paul E. Welborn and George M. Welborn, both of West Lafayette; brothers, Charles (Marie) Mellon of Monticello, Michael (Shirley) Mellon Jr. of Colorado, and Jack (Doris) Mellon of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Michael Welborn, Eric (Allison) Welborn, and Chad (Stephanie) Welborn; great grandchildren, Mathew Welborn, Clara Welborn, Kate Welborn, and Brody Welborn ; a great great grandson, Ryan Welborn; step grandchildren, Jodie Feeney, Shelley (Jody) Trader, and Jeff Feeney; and step great grandchildren, Cherish Feeney, Jody Trader, Jr., and Cole Trader. Katherine was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Valli Welborn and brothers, Bernard Mellon and Francis Mellon.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. There will be a Toast of Life following the Memorial Service at the Navy Club. Inurnment will be in Merritt Island Memorial Gardens in Florida. Memorial Donations may be made to Central Catholic Schools in memory of Katherine. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Healthcare for their excellent care of Katherine.
