Aleta R. Brown, 77

Aleta R. Brown, 77, of Chesterton, formerly of Lafayette, died at 2:50 am, Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Addison Pointe of Chesterton.

She was born July 2, 1937 in West Lafayette to the late William and Dorothy (Hayes) Telfer. Aleta was a 1956 graduate from Attica High School.

Her marriage was to Richard A. Brown on August 11, 1957 and they later divorced.

She was a secretary for the residence halls at Purdue University for 22 years before retiring in June of 1999. Aleta was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso, Purdue Women's Club, a former Girl Scout Leader, and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed going on day bus trips with the Purdue retirees, Imperial Travel, and the Senior Center of Tippecanoe Co. She was very artistic and loved sewing dolls, playing bridge at the YWMCA and Morton Community Center, going to the annual Telfer family reunions at Turkey Run State Park, and cherished her cats.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Sallee (husband: Steve) of Valparaiso, and Karen Klimek (husband: David) of South Bend, and a sister, Pat Blanchard of Charleston, IL. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Samantha Parris (husband: Toby), Courtney Saurborn, and Christine Sallee, and three great-grandchildren, Madden Parris, Kira Navarro, and Brayleigh Davies.

Friends may call from 12 pm (Noon) until the time of Funeral Service at 2 pm, Monday, July 14, 2014 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston, with Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds officiating. Interment to follow at Brookston IOOF Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Aleta's name to the VNA Hospice of Porter County.
