Attica - Rev. Stephen Everett Jones, 52, of rural Attica, passed away at his residence, following an illness with lyme aymotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 6:59 a.m.
Steve was born in Indianapolis, IN, on December 28, 1961. He was the son of the late Rev. Oscar Calvin and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Jones. He grew up in Indianapolis, graduating from Wood High School in 1980. He later graduated from Ivy Technical College in respiratory therapy. He moved to Attica in 1982 where he has resided.
Steve was the owner and operator of the K & S Auctions in Attica and Williamsport. He also had served as a pastor of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church near Perrysille for three years. He was presently a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Covington. He enjoyed spending time working in the auction business and preaching the Gospel.
On April 16, 1990, Steve married Debra K. Ortel in Indianapolis.
He leaves behind his wife, Debra of 24 years; a daughter, Kathryn E. Jones and a son, Samuel Jones, both at home; two sisters, Sara (Bruce) Fitzimmons, Versailles, IN and Susan (Jimmy) Fults, Crawfordsville.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, July 15th, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Bill Nickle and Kenny Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Freedom Cemetery in Brown Township near Waveland, IN.
