Larry Dean Meiser, age 71, of Morocco, IN., passed away early Saturday morning, July 12, 2014, at his home. He was born on February 26, 1943 in Argos, IN to the late Alma Ruth (Hott) and Fairmont Meiser. Larry moved to Rensselaer in 1945 and remained resident till moving to Morocco in 2001.
Larry graduated from Rensselaer High School class of 1961. Larry was the proud owner and operator of Larry's Shoe Repair in Rensselaer for over 50 years. On Saturday April 19, 2014 Larry and Dula invited all who loved and knew them to the store to celebrate with them their many years of service.
On November 1, 1964 Larry married Dula K. Harris in Remington, IN, and she survives.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer.
Larry was an avid bowler, bowling in the Men's Rensselaer and Morocco and Men's Traveling Bowling Leagues. Larry's Shoe Repair sponsored teams for many years.
Larry enjoyed sitting outback his home watching the birds, deer, rabbits and other wildlife.
As members of the Newton County 4-H Fair Association and 4-H Council, Larry and Dula were fundamental in the fund raising and building of the Poultry Barn. Larry helped bring shooting sports to the Newton County 4-H Fair, at a time when it was only offered at a handful of county fairs within the state. Larry obtained his Certification of Shooting Sports Project Instructor. Larry shared with 4-Her's his passion for guns and the proper mechanics to shoot and handle a shotgun.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dula Meiser of Morocco, IN., two children, Rebecca K. Nessle of Dayton, OH., and Roger Lee (Lindy) Meiser of Dennison, TX., three grandchildren, one step-grandchild, four sisters, Joyce Hoefert of GA., Barbara Simonin of TX., Mary (Mark) Bertagnolli of Munster, IN., and Jean McNelly of FL.
Larry is preceded in death by, his parents, one grandson, two nephews and three brothers-in- laws.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Funeral services for Larry will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Pastor Dennis Morrows officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to Epilepsy Foundation and/or Donor's Choice.
