Lowell Amos Martin, 95, of Lafayette, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at 2:07 p.m., in his brother's home. Born November 6, 1918 in Logan Township, IN, he was the son of the late Amos D. and Bertha E. (Cunningham) Martin. He was a 1936 graduate of West Point High School. Lowell honorably served in the U.S. Army from December 1942 to December 1945 and participated in the Normandy Invasion on Utah Beach.
His marriage was to Lillie E. Patrick on November 24, 1940 in Lafayette and she preceded him in death on January 1, 2009. He was a service supervisor for International Harvester from 1950 to 1974. He loved to bowl and was a Lafayette Bowling Association Hall of Fame inductee in 2006. He was named "Mr. Bowler" several different years and was still bowling twice a week into his 90's. He was a member of the American Legion. Lowell was a very humble man.
Lowell is survived by his brother, Daniel "Carroll" Martin (wife, Audrey) of Lafayette, a grandson, Brian L. Martin (wife, Vanessa) of West Lafayette, great grandsons, Nate and Benny, a niece Barbara Brewer (husband, Brian), whom he considered a daughter, and several other close nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald P. Martin and a brother, Kenneth D. Martin.
Visitation Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service at 2 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home with Rev. Linda Patrick officiating. Burial to follow at West Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
