Richard "Dick" L. Asher, 88

ATTICA — Richard "Dick" L. Asher, 88, Attica, passed away at the I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 9:25 a.m.

Richard was born in South Bend, IN, on February 14, 1923. He was the son of the late Winnie B. And Grace Asher. He graduated from South Haven High School in 1941.

Following graduation from high school, Richard entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the 1st Marine Division, A Company, 1st Pioneer Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant during WW II. He served in Okinawa, Pelelui and Cape Gloucester.

Richard worked as a construction manager for Radio Material Corp. in Attica until his retirement in1989.

He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing in Canada.

On June 7, 1947, Richard married Doris M. Asher in Holland, MI. She survives.

Also surviving are six children, Richard (Sigrid) Asher II, Denver, CO; Monica (Marvin) Lucas, El Paso, TX; Gregory Asher, Fredericksburg, VA; Teresa (Gary) Brown, West Lafayette; Jeffrey (Amy) Asher, Fishers, IN; Bruce (Karen) Asher, Midland, MI; 12 grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren, a great-granddaughter and 7 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 4 sisters and a daughter-in-law, Marge Asher.

Friends may call at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Attica, on Monday, Nov. 28th, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Public Library or the .
