Claude Shackelford, 83

Claude Shackelford, 83, of Lafayette, formerly of Clarks Hill, passed away at 1 a.m. Wednesday, October 03, 2012, at Regency Place in Lafayette.

Born February 24, 1929, in Jonesville, Va., he was the son of the late Hamilton "Ham" and Lilly (Ely) Shackelford.

Claude served in the Army in Korea where he worked on communication lines, running and repairing the lines to the front.

His marriage was to Mary Louise Minton on August 24, 1953, in Morristown, Tenn. and she survives.

Claude worked as an auto body repairman for Lafayette Truck Center for 20 years, retiring in 1989. He had previously worked for Horner's, DeFouw Chevrolet Body Shop for 12 years where he specialized in fiberglass, and he painted buses for Imperial Travel. He was a member of Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan Church. He was a former bowler in the Men's Bowling League, enjoyed using the CB radio, playing guitar and working on restoring cars.

Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Cliston Shackelford (husband, Chris) Ricker, of Michigantown; four grandchildren, Angela (husband: Erik) Hulstrom, Jayne (husband: Brent) Flatt and Rachel and Rhea Ricker; and four great grandchildren, Danika, Jackson, Adelyn and Aiden.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery T. Shackelford in 2009; three brothers, Eules, Roy Lee and Eugene Shackelford; three infant brothers, Troy, Jonathan and Lewis Shackelford; three sisters, Flossie Luther, Verda Cody and Zelma Willougby; and an infant sister, Maudie Shackelford.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home; Pastor Justin Nierer officiating. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan Church, for Guitars for Africa, 2040 Schuyler Ave., Lafayette, IN 47904.
