Everett N. Lucas, 90

Everett N. Lucas, 90, of Frankfort, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.

He was born in Clinton County on May 31, 1922, to Walter & Jesse (Mundell) Lucas.

He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy E. Sims on September 25, 1943, in Muskogee , Okla. and she survives.

Everett graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1940 and from Indiana University Law School in 1948. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served from February 1943 to October 1945 as a 2nd Lieutenant Pilot. He trained recruits to be pilots at Pampa , Texas Army Airfield. Everett was a trust officer at Farmers Bank for 10 years. He was most noted for his 3 terms as Clinton County Circuit Court Judge from 1958 to 1976, he was then appointed as a Workmen Compensation Judge for the State of Indiana from 1977 to 1987. A 50 year member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, he was also a 50 year member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge 54, 50 year member of American Legion, over 30 years in Optimist, member Indiana Bar Assoc. from 1948 to 2012 and was 1960 Clinton County Chamber of Commerce President.

Everett was instrumental in bringing the Frankfort Airport to Clinton County and bringing Peter Paul Mounds Candy Company to Frankfort. He received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Governor Orr. Everett loved music and played trumpet in a local band in the 1940's. He and Peggy enjoyed their winter home in Cape Coral, Fla. for a number of years and had many pets throughout their lives.

Along with his wife, Everett is survived by two daughters, Andrea L. Shriver and Jacqueline (Joseph) Snyder, both of Frankfort; one son, Rett Lucas, of Frankfort; three grandsons, Todd (Gail) Shriver, of Reynolds, Kyle (Sabrina) Cook, of Nashville, Tenn. and Alex Snyder, of Indianapolis; five great-grandchildren, Lexi, Taylor and Ryan Shriver and Makenzie and Ava Cook; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie Lucas Reagan and Josephine Lucas Dilworth and brother Kenneth Lucas.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Goodwin Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
