Rev. George P. Weister

WILLIAMSPORT — the Rev. George P. Weister, 67, passed away at the St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

George was born in Bradford, Pa. on December 12, 1944. He was the son of the late Clarence Holmes and Alvera (McClintock) Weister. George was raised in Johnsonburg, Pa., graduating from Johnsonburg H.S. in 1962; He later graduated from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. and received his divinity degree from the Garrett Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Ill. He moved to Indiana in 1974 where he served as a pastor in the United Methodist Churches located in Howe, Muncie, Kokomo, Bremen and Attica. He retired from the ministry in 1994.

George was a dual member of the Converse Lodge 601 and the Pine Village Lodge 315 F. & A.M serving as Past Master. He was a 33° Scottish Rite Freemason, Valley of Terre Haute, Grand Chaplain of the Royal Arch Masons of Indiana, member of the Murat Shrine and held dues cards for several other appendant bodies. George had served as Representative for the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation, retiring in 2011 due to his health. George had authored several articles for the "Grand Architect of the Universe" column for the Indiana Freemason magazine, dating back to 2004. George had been given the title of "Kentucky Colonel" by the Kentucky Commonwealth.

George was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team and Pittsburgh Steeler football team.

On May 25, 1968, George married Sandra Fortier in Buffalo, N.Y.

George leaves behind his wife of 44 years along with a son, Greg Weister, both of Williamsport.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, November 16th, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial Service being held at 8 p.m. and a Scottish Rite Ceremony to follow. A memorial service will be held at the Kokomo Zion United Methodist Church, 5051 E. 400 N., Kokomo, at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th, the Revs. Milton Gould and David Herr officiating. Inurnment will be in the Kokomo Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation, 525 N. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 or the Williamsport Public Library, 28 E. 2nd St., Williamsport, IN 47993.
