Vincent DePaul Mathew, 90

Vincent DePaul Mathew of Lake Placid, Florida, formerly of Wolcott, died Friday, December 28, 2012 in Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring, Florida. He had been in failing health for the last couple years.

He was born January 19, 1922 in Wolcott to the late Clarence & Melina Mathew. He attended Sacred Heart School and was a proud graduate of Wolcott High School.

He was a retired dairy farmer from Wolcott. After retirement, in 1982, he and his wife moved to Lake Placid, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Fields) Mathew on May 25, 2008. He later married Charlotte Brinkey in Lake Placid. She survives.

He enjoyed many leisure activities in his retirement with golf being the favorite.

He had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington, Indiana and was currently a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge in Lake Placid, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Mathew of Lake Placid, FL; daughters, Janet Murphy (Patrick) and Carolyn Vogel (Robert) both of The Villages, FL and Nancy Klopfenstein (Gale) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; 2 sons, Dennis Mathew (wife: Millie) of Wolcott, IN and Robert Mathew of Logansport, IN; a brother, Alvin Mathew (wife: Rita) of Wisconsin; and 3 sisters, Vera LaGue (husband: Glenn) of Surfside Beach, SC, Evelyn McGraw of Wolcott and Velma Nagel (husband: Walter) of Rensselaer, IN.

Vince loved spending time with his family, especially his 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death with his parents and first wife are a son, Steve; a grandson, Chad and a brother Laverne Mathew.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 12 p.m. Noon (EST) on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington; Fr. David Hellmann to officiate.
