Lavonne M. (Brugh) Scheffee, 87, of Lafayette, died at 5:34 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Milner Health and Retirement Community in Rossville. She was born January 26, 1925, in Lafayette, the daughter of the late Roy and Thelma Schroeder Brugh. Lavonne married Robert G. Scheffee on August 16, 1941, in Lafayette and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1993. She was a member of Brown Street United Methodist Church and formerly was a member of the Tippewa Spinners and the Stickkickers. Lavonne had volunteered at the Hanna Community Center and the Church Women United Food Pantry. She enjoyed square dancing, taking care of others, but more importantly, spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Lavonne are her children, Roberta "Bobbie" Brettnacher and her husband John of Brookston, James "Jim" Scheffee and his wife Judy of Lafayette, and Ronald "Ron" Scheffee, of West Lafayette; two sisters, Doris Maddox and her husband Tom, of Michigan and Carole Dunk, of Rossville. Lavonne is also survived by her nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, a grandson, Mike Brettnacher, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Scheffee.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with the service at 11 a.m Wednesday in Hippensteel Chapel, Pastor Bruce Mowery officiating. Burial to follow at Pyrmont Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children or the Brown Street United Methodist Church.
