Derrick W. Rich, 43

Derrick W. Rich, 43, Lafayette, passed away at St. Elizabeth East, Jan. 16, at 8:45 p.m. Derrick was born on September 3, 1969, at Home Hospital, to Dona S. Moyer and Donald W. Rich.

He is survived by his two children; Samantha Rich, and Joseph Rich, both of Lafayette. Also his stepdaughters, Winter and Autumn Hocquard, Heather Evans and Michelle Osborne all of Crawfordsville.

Derrick loved his family and friends more than anything. He was a very talented guitar player, an interest that he shared with his son Joey. He was also very good with computers and enjoyed music from Iron Maiden and Metallica, the Eagles and Black Sabbath. He was a rocker at heart but knew what was most important in life; his family. He worked at Halstead Drywall for 26 years and he loved his job. Derrick was not a serious man, which was why a party in honor of his memory had been held for him; with the attire being Iron Maiden t-shirts.

Still living are all of his children; his mother Dona Moyer and stepfather Danny Long of Lafayette; and his 6 living siblings, Robin Heaberlin of Greenwood, Tracey Osborne of Greencastle, Rhonda Swisher of Philadelphia, Tenn., Brandy Baltier of Denver, Colo., Jesse Rich of Las Cruces, N.M., and Roy Rich of Frankfort. He had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.

There will not be a funeral but a memorial, with the spreading of his ashes will take place in the next couple of weeks. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Rich; and his brother Donnie.
