Robert Lee Balliet, 82, of Baton Rouge, La. died early Monday, February 18, 2013, in the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, La. He had been in failing health. He was born April 4, 1930, in McCall, Idaho son of the late Harry Stuart and Katherine Mary Hardman Balliet. On October 2, 1954, he married Vivian Maurine Palin, who was raised the Newtown/Mellott area, in Reno, Nev. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2004.
Bob graduated from Donnelly-McCall High School in McCall, Idaho. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and employed by General Electric. His job carried him and wife to many locations throughout the United States, most recently Carriere, Miss., Russellville, Ark., Mahomet, Ill., and Baton Rouge, La.
Bob was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed aviation. He also was an avid photographer.
'Uncle Bob' as he was known by all, is survived by very special friends, Ricky and Theba Norris and their families, of Baton Rouge, La.; sister-in-laws, Ruth Maxine Nourse, of Hubert, N.C., Earline Palin, of Mellott, Mildred (Richard) Martin, of New Richmond, Marlyn Pierce, of Indianapolis and Lin Palin, of Louisville, Ky.; brother-in-law, Gale Pierce, of Jamestown; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister Erma.
Burial with graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, in New Richmond Cemetery with Pastor Richard Carty officiating. Military graveside Honors by Crawfordsville Posts of the American Legion and VFW.
