Francis "Bud" Demerly, 91, of Round Grove, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, West Lafayette.
He was born July 7, 1921 in Round Grove to the late John and Margaret (Alberts) Demerly.
His marriage was to Mary Jane Freeman on October 18, 1947 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette. He later married Dorothy M. "Dot" Hurst on July 29, 1972. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2010.
Bud was born on the family farm, grew up and farmed it his entire life until retiring in 1994 at the age of 72.
Mr. Demerly was a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette. Prior to St. Lawrence Bud's home parish and one his grandfather helped build was, the now gone, St. Bridgett's Catholic Church of Barrydale.
Surviving are his children, Lynne Zachmanoglou (husband: Terry) of West Lafayette, John Demerly (wife: Nancy) of Wolcott, Tina Auch (husband: Matt) of Lebanon, Mark Demerly (partner: David Chalfie) of Indianapolis and Eric Demerly (wife: Julie) of West Lafayette; step-children, Diana Currie (husband: Richard) of Winter Haven. FL, Rex Hurst of Lafayette, Trudie Kopf (husband: Steve) of West Lafayette and Bonnie Brummett (husband: Rex) of Brookston; a sister, Helen Rooze of Stockwell and two brothers, Bernard Demerly and Harold Demerly both of Lafayette.
Bud loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Nathan, John, Stacy, Trisha, Jeff, Joe, Sarah, Katie, Matthew, Noah, Ethan and Miles and his 19 great-grandchildren as well as his 7 stepgrandchildren and 8 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony Demerly; a granddaughter, Cassie Walker; two sisters, Viola McNaughton and Rosemary Schaible and a brother, Edward Demerly.
A rosary service will be held at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 with visitation to follow from 3-8 p.m. at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (19th & Meharry, Lafayette). Rev. Daniel B. Gartland and Rev. David Buckles to officiate. Interment to follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Lafayette.
