Judy J. Simons
Judy J. (Johnson) Simons, 71, of West Lafayette, passed away in her home surrounded by her family at 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Born October 7, 1941 in Glenwood Springs, CO, she was the daughter of the late Harold J. and Eleanor O. (Call) Johnson. Judy attended the University of Wyoming, the University of Colorado, and Purdue University.
Her marriage was to Gale H. Simons on June 4, 1960 in Casper, Wyoming, and he survives. Judy and her husband were the owners of The Mole Hole Gift Shops for 21 years. She was a former member of Covenant Church in West Lafayette, where she had served as a deacon and sang in the chancel choir. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, a member of Women's Ministries, the church choir, W.O.W., and Circle 19. She was also a member of Tri Kappa, Epsilon Chapter where she was a past president and helped organize the annual fundraiser for the production of chocolate Easter eggs. She was also a member of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra Guild where she helped organize the first fashion show to raise funds for the Guild. Judy enjoyed music, art, and traveling but her biggest joy was being a mother and grandmother and serving her Lord.
Surviving with her husband, Gale, are a son, Steven M. Simons, and a daughter, Carin J. Sondgerath (husband, Thad) both of Lafayette and three grandchildren, Samantha, Tessa, and Shaylyn Sondgerath.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Central Presbyterian Church, 31 N. 7th Street, with Rev. Dr. William Smutz and Rev. Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fitch Parlor following the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
