Darrell W. Slagle, 90

Darrell W. Slagle, 90, passed away Saturday May 04, 2013, at Winter Haven Nursing Home in Winter Haven Florida. Born October 09, 1922 in Boswell Indiana, he was the son of the late Ray and Irene (Gearlack) Slagle.

Darrell graduated from West Point High School in 1941. Darrell served in the US Army during World War 2 in Asiatic - Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945. His marriage was to Betty Maxine Hayden October 07, 1948 who preceded him in death March 20,1998.

Darrell lived in Lake Wales Florida for the last fourteen years with his companion Lorraine Koblericki. They met dancing and loved to travel on cruises.Surviving are two daughters Niki K. McGreevy (Husband Michael) of Lafayette, Indiana and Kathy Stock (Husband) Jason of Americus, Indiana. There are four Grandchildren Bryan, Matthew, Cory and Jason and 16 Great Grand Children.

Darrell worked for Alcoa and retired from Peerless Wire before moving to Lakeland Florida. Darrell loved to dance and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Darrell was active in the Tippecanoe Shriners Club for many years. Darrell was 33rd degree Mason. The 33rd degree is an honorary degree conferred by the Scottish Rite, which is an append ant body of the Masonic fraternity. It is an honorary degree bestowed on a member who has already received the Knight Commander Court of Honor (or red hat). Maybe 10% of all Scottish Rite Masons are 33rd degree Masons.

Burial will be scheduled at a later date at Lakeland Memorial Gardens in Lakeland Florida where he will be place beside his late wife, Maxine.
