Ismael Ferreyra Obituary
Ismael Ferreyra, 84, of West Lafayette, passed away at 2:55 PM, Friday June 7, 2013 at IU Health Arnett Hospital. He was born in Chaco, Argentina in 1929. He was a professional international Soccer player. His soccer career spanned over 40 years as a center forward striker and coach. He played for Estudiantes de la Plata and Atlanta in Argentina, Celaya in Mexico, Italia in Canada, and the Ukranian National League in the United States. He also coached the men's Purdue Soccer Club to the National Championships in 1991 and 1992, and brought indoor soccer to Lafayette as owner of Soccer Central. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and playing computer games.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Maria Ferreyra, a daughter, Marilyn Perera and husband Juan, a daughter, Yvonne Smith, and a brother, Esteban Ferreyra and wife Ramona of Argentina along with extended relatives in Argentina and Nevada. Ismael also has 2 grandchildren surviving: Micayla, 15, and Arianna, 11. He is preceded in death by his mother, Luisa Ferreyra and brothers, Oscar and Olegario Ferreyra.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM with the funeral service starting at 7:00 PM all at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2224 Sacramento Dr., West Lafayette. Fr. David Buckles officiating. I was so sorry to hear of Ismael's passing. I worked at J. C. Penney years ago when he worked there also. He was always very friendly and helpful with anything that needed done. I know he loved playing soccer and was so excited when he got chance to teach. My prayers are with his family.
