Francis L. Hilt, 74, of Middleburg, KY, formerly of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Guardian VA Hospital in Lexington, KY. Born November 6, 1938 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Raymond and Aldine (Turner) Hilt. He honorably served in the Army during the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam era, earning the rank of Specialist 5th class.
Francis married Mary A. Gertzen on July 22, 1966 in Tippecanoe County and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2008. He was employed at Duncan Meter where he built meter boxes. He retired in 1997 after 30 years.
Francis was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his two sons, James R. Hilt of Lafayette and Gary Hilt (wife, Marcey) of Middleburg, KY; three brothers, Edward Hilt (wife, Earlene) and Kenny Hilt (wife, Maryann) both of Lafayette and Roger Hilt (wife, Karen) of Buck Creek; and two sisters, Joyce Taylor (husband, Tom) of Clinton, IN and Deborah Jackson (husband, David) of Indianapolis. Preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Haynes and Doris Hilt, and a brother Donald Hilt.
Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor David Clark officiating. Burial to follow at Isley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to
