Matthew S. Knogge, age 53, of Mulberry, passed away at 2:06 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Elizabeth East.
Born on May 23, 1960 in Lincoln, NE, he was the son of the late Kenneth L. Knogge and Shirley Mae Knogge. He graduated from West Lafayette High School. He honorably served in the U. S. Marine Corps from August 13, 1980 to June 22, 1988 as a combat engineer serving in the U. S. and Okinawa, Japan. He also visited South Korea. Matthew was awarded the Marksman Badge, Sharp Shooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and 2 Letters of Appreciation.
Matthew married Cynthia French on June 18, 1994 in Frankfort and she survives. He was a forklift driver for SIA from 1990-2002. He was a member of American Legion Post #11, VFW #1154, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the NRA. Matthew loved to read and shooting. He enjoyed poetry, karate and Jui Jitsu.
Surviving with his wife are his children: Brooke E. Albertson (husb: Chad) of Lafayette and Brian David (wife: Alicia) of West Lafayette, 2 brothers: Mark Knogge (wife: Becky) of Colorado Springs, CO and Jim Knogge (wife: Christina) of Lafayette, 5 grandchildren: Gavynn, Zeke, Landon, Kameryn and Gwynn, a special niece: Shay.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 with a 1 hour prior visitation at the funeral home. Pastor John Christian officiating. Interment at Fairhaven Cemetery in Mulberry. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
