Raymond B. Patton, 79

Raymond B. Patton, 79, of Brook, Indiana, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at 6:06 p.m. at the Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer, Indiana. Ray was the son of the late Rolland Bryce & Zula Tear Patton. He worked for 25 years as a rural mail carrier for the Post Office Department. Ray also owned and operated the Patton Grocery Store, Foresman, IN for 15 years, and after retirement he drove for 3 years for the Newton County Community Services Bus. He enjoyed bowling, and was member of Mt. Ayr United Methodist Church, Mt. Ayr, IN., U. S. Postal Workers Union and the American Legion , Monticello Post.

His first marriage was to Arlene P. Patton, they were married on March 2l, 1956 in Crown Point, IN and she preceded him in death January l, 1994 in Rensselaer, IN. He then married Wanda S. Armold Spurgeon, December 15, 1995 in Brook, IN. and she survivies. He is also survived by 4 sons, Robert E. Frazier, Merrillville, IN. James A. Patton, (wife, Barb), Valparaiso, IN, David L. Patton, (wife, Mary), Valparaiso, IN, and 3 daughters, Patricia A. Rootkie (husband, Ray), Valparaiso, IN, Jeanne L. (Tomaga) Muszynski, (husband, Mark), Valparaiso, IN and Terry R. Bond, (husband, Greg), Hobart, IN. and 4 Step-Sons, Jack Spurgeon, Morocco, IN, Blake Spurgeon, (wife, Nancy) Rensselaer, IN, Harry L. Spurgeon (companion, Pam Allis) Goodland, IN, and Larry Spurgeon, (wife, Kelly) Rensselaer, IN. Grandfather of 19, Great Grandfather of 24 and Great Great Grandfather of 2. Also survivies are 2 Brothers, Roy Patton, Texas and Allen Patton, Georgia, and a sister, Ruth Lloyd, (husband, Howard), Florida.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Helen and Dottie.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm (CST) at the Gerts Funeral Home, Brook, IN with services on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at ll:00 am (CST), at the Gerts Funeral Home, Brook, IN, with Rev. Russell Alley, officiating. Memorials may be given in his name to the Mt. Ayr United Methodist Church. Mt. Ayr, Indiana.
