Janet Spurgeon Obituary
Janet Spurgeon, age 76, of Rensselaer passed away at her home on December 2, 2015. Jan was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on February 19, 1939, the daughter of the late Charles R. and Mildred H. (Brown) Cain. She was a lifetime resident and a 1957 graduate of Rensselaer High School.
Jan was a homemaker and had previously worked in the Admissions Office at Saint Joseph College. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer and a fan of Saint Joseph College basketball.
On October 22, 1958, Jan married Charles M. Spurgeon who survives.
She was an amazing mother to her children, Tracy Joe (wife Anne) Spurgeon of Evergreen, Colorado and Shannon Marie (husband Craig) Cavinder of San Diego, California. Other survivors include five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, J. C. Cain of Monticello, Ind., and Mike Cain of Rensselaer and a sister, Marsha (husband Mike) Gentry of Remington, Ind. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles M. "Cub" Spurgeon and a grandson, Jacy Catlin Spurgeon.
Friends will be received at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Sunday, December 6, 2015, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. CST. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. CST at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Father Tim McFarland officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Health Rensselaer Home Healthcare and Hospice or The Wounded Warrior Project.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
