Blizzard, Laura  
Laura Jean Blizzard, 70, of Richlands died Monday at her home. A memorial service will be Sunday, Dec 21, 2014 at 6 PM at The Bible Church, Rev Eric Jones officiating. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry K. Blizzard. She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Hobbs of Jacksonville, nieces, Rebecca Evans, Lisa Faude, and Kim Armstrong. Brown, Carlton  
TRENTON | Carlton Haywood Brown, 91, of Trenton passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at his home. A native of Jones County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Ann and Eva Koonce Brown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Smith Brown of the home; a daughter, Carla Berg and husband Christian of Trenton; two grandchildren, Benjamin Berg and wife Erin, and Matthew Berg; and a special nephew, Tim Greene. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Brown; and a sister, Annie K. Greene. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Richlands, with Reverend Rick Vernon officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial, with Military Honors, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Benjamin Brown Cemetery in Trenton. HUBERT | Barry Matt Carter Sr., 61, of Hubert died Dec. 16, 2014. Funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at Crystal Coast Assembly of God, Peletier with the Rev. Hardesty officiating. Interment follows at Seaside Memorial Park, Swansboro. He was an active member of Crystal Coast Assembly of God, founder of the Turkey Shoot Ministry and member of National Wild Turkey Federation. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ethel Carter; sons, Barry Carter Jr., Jason Carter; brothers, Eddie Carter, Ronnie Carter; sisters, Joyce Bright, Bonnie Carter, all of Hubert; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jacksonville, NC | Eugene W. ""Gene"" Cowart, 85, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Onslow House. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Cowart was a retired Staff Sergeant, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War with the 1st Marine Division in 1950, and was a survivor of the Battle at Chosin Reservoir Korea, Nov-Dec of 1950. He was a member of the Chosin Few Exclusive Fraternity of Honor, Coastal Carolina Chapter, Jacksonville, NC. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cowart. Survivors include his three daughters, Jean Justice, Ruth Morris and Mary Ann Loreman, all of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gillenwater, Lelia  
Lelia Mae Smith Gillenwater, 92, of Havelock passed away Dec. 9, 2014, at Crystal Bluffs Nursing Home. Born in Jacksonville on Oct. 11, 1922, she was the daughter of Daniel and Lillie Smith. She and her late husband, George C. Gillenwater, owned and operated Gillenwater's TV Sales and Service in Havelock for many years. She was a beloved mother and homemaker. She was a longtime member of First Methodist Church in Havelock and member of Carolina Pines Country Club, being an avid golfer for many years. She is survived by her son, George Craig Gillenwater and wife Patti of Raleigh; her daughter, Connie G. Smith and husband Bob of Newport; four grandchildren, Sean and Marcus Smith, Carey Gillenwater and wife Neek, and Jana Rosenberger and husband Cory; three great-grandchildren, Bella and Cayden Gillenwater, and Quinn Smith; two brothers Jimmy Smith of Jacksonville and David Smith of Greensboro. The family would like to express its sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at Croatan Village Assisted Living in New Bern and to Crystal Bluffs Skilled Nursing Care in Morehead City for their loving care of Ms. Gillenwater. The funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Cotten Funeral Home Chapel in New Bern with the Rev. William Boykin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Greenleaf Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the N.C.
