JACKSONVILLE | Karen S. Losito, 74, of Jacksonville, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at Onslow Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Flynn and Rev. Jerry Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Mrs. Losito was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Anthony Losito. She is survived by three sons, Mark Losito and his wife, Linda of Lancaster, PA, Scott Losito and his wife, Tawnya of Swansboro and Craig Losito of Hampstead; three sisters, Kathy Moon, Connie Goodwin and Gardenia Hanshew, all of Pensacola, FL; six grandchildren, Samantha Moss, Marc Losito, John Giddo, Krista Losito, Scott Losito and Olivia Losito; and three great-grandchildren, Megan Losito, Joshua Moss and Emily Moss. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.

Meadows, Leroy  
MAYSVILLE | Leroy B. Meadows, 87, of Maysville died Feb. 19, 2015. Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 at Maysville United Methodist Church with Patrick Keely officiating. Burial will be private. He was a member of Maysville United Methodist Church and retired from the U.S. Forest Service in the Croatan district. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Meadows. Survivors include his sons, Kelvin Meadows of Maysville, Andy Meadows of New Bern; daughter, Sharon Meadows Lambert of Wendell; sisters, Christabell Godwin of Stella, Anne Holman of California; and six grandchildren. Murray, Patricia  
HIGH POINT | Mrs. Patricia Ray (Hope) Murray, 68, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point with her loving family by her side. Patricia was born on March 9, 1946, in Gastonia, a daughter of the late Thomas and Wilhelmina (Hackney) Hope. She was a graduate of Page High School in Greensboro and continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, earning a bachelor's degree, and Later in life, she received a master's degree in Music Education from East Carolina University. Over the years, she taught elementary music at Dixon Elementary School in Sneads Ferry and Northwoods Elementary School in Jacksonville, and collegiate music education at Coastal Carolina Community College and Campbell University. When she wasn't teaching, she played her bassoon in the Jacksonville Community Band, and performed with the group Singing Hands. In her younger years, she enjoyed needlework and collecting owls. Patricia is survived by a daughter, Ashley Paige Murray of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Travis Murray and his wife, Sherry of High Point; three grandchildren, Josie, Dillon and Siselia Murray, all of High Point; a sister, Jane Hope of Los Angeles, California; two nieces, Lisa Gentry of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Ginger Mullins and her husband, James of Knoxville, Tennessee; two nephews, Keller Gentry of Tampa, Florida, and Chuck Murray and his wife, Lynn of Charlotte and their children Russell and Gracie Murray. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Salem Terrace Assisted Living in Winston-Salem. RENSSELAER, New York |Louise Gadson Oxendine, 92, of Rensselaer, New York, died Feb. 21, 2015, at her residence. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at Morgan Funeral Home, Jacksonville with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery, New Bern. Survivors include her son, Gary Oxendine of Albany, New York; daughters, Carrie White Russell of Ravena, New York, Mazie Wright of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Maysville | Luann Jane Pruitt Phipps, 53, passed on Feb. 20, 2015, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville with the Rev. Danny Pruitt officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. before the funeral. Luann is survived by her husband Daniel Phipps of Maysville; her sisters, Barbara Ann Paul of Guyton, Georgia, Susan Ann Petracca of Lindenhurst, New York, Donna Lee Bourquin of Emerald Isle; one brother, William M. Pruitt Jr. of Redington Shores, Florida. Luann was the loving wife of Dan, her husband. She adored her father, Mr. William Pruitt Sr., and late mother, Geraldine Weight Pruitt. Luann loved her twin brother, William and sisters, Barbara, Susan and Donna. Luann was a wonderful lifelong member of Ladies Aux., VFW post 9133 of Jacksonville. Summerlin, Charles  
JACKSONVILLE | Mr. Charles Waddell Summerlin passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 23, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Kerr officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park. He was born on June 23, 1925, in Wilson, N.C. He graduated from Durham High School where he met the love of his life, Catherine Burton Teague. Upon graduation from High School in 1943 he joined the Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. After returning home from WWII he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Summerlin was proud to be a UNC Tar Heel and was a lifetime member of the UNC Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity. After graduation from UNC he learned the Insurance Business in Rhode Island, Raleigh and Morehead City. Mr. and Mrs. Summerlin moved their young family to Jacksonville in 1957, and he opened Summerlin Insurance and Realty which is still in business today. He was a member of the American Institute of Property and Liability Underwriters and a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Mr. Summerlin lived his life for his faith, his family, helping others through civic organizations and watching the Tar Heels play. Before retiring he loved to travel yearly, with Catherine, to Florida for Baseball's Spring training camp. As long as he was physically able he enjoyed playing golf, which was one of his favorite pastimes. He was also a member of the National Sojourners, past Master of the Masonic Lafayette Lodge No. 83 and a former US Commissioner. Mr. Summerlin was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Summerlin and Lena Buck Summerlin; brothers, Ralph, Thomas and Jasper Summerlin; and sisters, Odie Parnell, Jean Dorman and Pauline Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine Teague Summerlin; daughter, Jane Sawyer (James) of Swansboro; and son, Charles Waddell Summerlin, Jr. (Donna) of Jacksonville. He is also survived by the pride and joy of his life; grandchildren, Shelly McGirt Yarbrough (Trace) of Grifton, NC, Cathy McGirt James of Jacksonville, Kevin McGirt of Beaufort, Caroline Summerlin Lanier (Andrew) of Jacksonville and Charles Teague Summerlin of Jacksonville as well as six great-grandchildren, Jack and Anna Yarbrough, Ava and Spencer James, Summerlin McGirt and Charles Porter Lanier. Also surviving Mr. Summerlin are his brother, Lyman Summerlin of Stanley, NC and sisters, Joyce Pinnix of Reidsville, NC and Louise Rice of Greensboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the Shriners Hospitals For Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Onslow Country Home Health and Hospice, 4024 Richlands, Hwy., Jacksonville, NC 28540.
