Bernard Plant

JACKSONVILLE - Bernard "Tad" Maurice Plant, 82, of Jacksonville, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed from this life on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel with the Rev. Lyle Brickhouse officiating. Burial with full military honors, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Plant was a veteran of both the Korean War, where he was a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign and the Vietnam War. He retired as a first lieutenant from the USMC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Rourk Plant.

Survivors include his four children, Shirlene Kellum and her husband, Leonard of Jacksonville, Bernard "Tad" Plant Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Maysville, Darlene Winberry and her husband, Tommy of Jacksonville and Timmy Plant and Valerie Smith of Swansboro; one brother, Hershel Plant of Florida; one sister, Pauline Culver of West Virginia; seven grandchildren, Crystal Morton, Benjamin Noblot, Michael Kellum, Daniel Plant, Wade Powell, Meagan Plant and Derrick Plant; and seven great-grandchildren, Matthew Morton, Jonathan Morton, Logan Morton, Owen Morton, Madison Kellum, Veda Noblot and Ryann Powell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
