Charles Cooper

EMERALD ISLE -- Charles "Charlie" Grant Cooper, 82, of Emerald Isle, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21 at the Swansboro United Methodist Church with Dr. Edward Gunter officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
Mr. Cooper retired with the rank of Major from the National Guard. He was a charter member of the Jacksonville Rotary and was responsible for starting Rotary clubs in both Swansboro and Richlands. Additionally he served as the Past District Governor of Rotary International for District 7730. He founded Cooper Investment in 1970, and spent many years volunteering as a basketball coach for the Jacksonville Recreation Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Roy Cooper and Gladys Grant Cooper; and one son, Charles Grant Cooper Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Canady Cooper of the home; one daughter, Cathy Cooper Fix and her husband, Michael of Andover, Minn.; one son, Thomas Gregory Cooper and his wife, Angie of Swansboro; and three granddaughters, Lindsey Fix, Abby Cooper and Sarah Cooper.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
