Eugene Barrett

Retired Gunnery Sergeant Eugene Barrett Sr., born on June 23, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio, went to be with his maker and family April 9, 2014.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Hansley officiating. Burial will follow with United States Marine Corps Funeral Honors at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Eugene Barrett was a retired Gunnery Sergeant, United States Marines serving 25 years for his country. Mr. Barrett's military career began serving in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and twenty years in the U.S. Marine Corps including two tours in Vietnam.
Mr. Barrett was a loving husband and a great father to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Joyce Sadler Barrett; and son, Charles Mac Barrett. Sisters, Molly and Emma; and brothers, Frankie and Noah; and one grandson, Jason Barrett.
He is survived by four sons, Michael Larry "Mike" Barrett of Wallace, Gary Lee "Frog" Barrett of Beulaville, Eugene Barrett Jr. of Charlotte, and Jesse "David" Barrett of Jacksonville; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother, Billy Barrett of Utah and a sister, Deloris Barrett of Arizona.
Mr. Barrett was involved in serving his community by participating in Meals on Wheels and playing "Santa Claus." He was an avid bowler and loved fishing and any type of sports.
