MARSHALL – Garfield Herbert Lindsey, 78, of Marshall, passed away April 4, 2013, at The JFK Solace Center in Asheville.
Mr. Lindsey was born in Spring Creek on April 29, 1934, the son of Garfield and Mary Graves Lindsey. Garfield graduated from Spring Creek School, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1952, and served a four year term. Garfield was married to Georgia Baldwin from Marshall on Nov. 12, 1954.
Garfield spent his working career at the Tampa Tribune where he retired as the Transportation Director in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and seven siblings.
Mr. Lindsey is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Georgia Baldwin Lindsey; daughters, Rhonda Clarke (Rick) of Franklin, Lynn Gazzillo (Ralph) of Chicago Heights, Ill., and Michele Riggs (Scott) of Jacksonville; a son, Tom Lindsey (Kristy) of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Minton of Tampa, Fla., and Inez Kimbell of Mills River.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 8 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Sprouse and Mack Revis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery on Ivy Hill Road.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
