Joseph Richard Casey III, 73, of Emerald Isle died from pulmonary fibrosis on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at home with wife and son by his side.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at Swansboro United Methodist Church followed by a reception at the Lands End Clubhouse in Emerald Isle.
Joe was born in 1939 to parents Joseph R. Casey Jr. and Miriam/Tinsy Bowden Casey, grew up in Rocky Point, N.C., graduated Burgaw High School, Wilmington College and received his B.S. in industrial relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1962. He worked in sales for McLean Trucking Co. until its demise and then for several other trucking firms in the Rocky Mount-Kinston area until moving to his beloved Emerald Isle.
Then he worked in sales for Marine Chevrolet Cadillac in Jacksonville retiring in 2003. He enjoyed his retirement every day and fished as much as possible, weather permitting. One of his favorite activities was to camp and fish at Portsmouth Island with his best buddy, Freddy, or son and grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Helen Mumford Casey; son, Dr. Michael Joseph Casey (Michele) of Raleigh; grandsons, Alex, Graham and Jacob; two brothers, Samuel Casey (Patsy) of Currituck, N.C. and David Casey (Lucinda) of Carthage, N.C.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
