June Foran

June Elizabeth Burkheimer Foran, died peacefully at home with family on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012. June was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 11, 1925. She joined her husband Bob who preceded her in death last year.

June attended Georgetown University and worked at the War Department in Washington, D.C., where she met Robert Foran, a United States Marine. She and Bob were married at St. Matthew's Cathedral, Washington, D.C., on May 20, 1944. They moved to Jacksonville in 1957.

June worked to establish chapters for the following organizations in Jacksonville: March of Dimes, American Sickle Cell Anemia Society, and the Girls Scouts of America. June was a troop leader for many years and remained an active adult member. She was a member of and held offices in the Catholic Daughters of America, the Women of the Moose, the Ladies Auxiliary of the FRA, and the USO. June and her husband were active members and attended Infant of Prague Catholic Church.

June loved the beach and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had two brothers, Bruce Burkheimer of Los Ojos, N.M., and Dwight Burkheimer of Puyallup, Wash., who preceded his sister in death. June is survived by her children, Michael Foran of Peachtree City, Ga.; Kathleen Myers, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; Robert Foran Jr. who preceded her in death; Maryann Martinelli, Stephanie Kenis of Herndon, Va.; and Margaret Sanderson; 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

The family is receiving friends at the home and a memorial service will be held at later date which is to be determined.
