Lilly Gillenwater

Lilly Evelyn Garris Gillenwater, 91, of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Liberty Common Assisted Living.
Born in Yamicraw, Pender County on March 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Fatima Garris. She was a beloved mother, homemaker, and secretary at Gillenwater Construction Company. She was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church for many years.
Surviving, are a son, William Dean Gillenwater and wife Jeannie of Greensboro; three daughters, Jane Rock and husband Gill of Jacksonville, Shirley Farmer and husband Tom of Beavercreek, Ohio, Kathryn Pennington and husband Jerry of Jacksonville; ten grandchildren, Derek Farmer, Greg Farmer, Amy Broderick, Sharon Stogner, Kevin Rock, Cary Gillenwater, Cole Gillenwater, Christian Gillenwater, Alex Pennington, Kyle Pennington; 14 great-grandchildren and special family friends, Catherine Smith and Bill Munson. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her husband, Grady Gillenwater; a brother, Wilbur Lee Garris; and a son, Dr. Robert Gillenwater.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Liberty Commons and Liberty Hospice Services for their loving care of Mrs. Gillenwater.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24 in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. John R. Kerr officiating. The committal service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Onslow Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 400 Bayshore Blvd. North, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
