HENDERSON -- Lorimer C. Padgett, 73, of 1524 Glover Street, Henderson, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
Born in Onslow County, he was the son of the late Lewis "Luke" Padgett and Rosetta Padgett.
Mr. Padgett was the former owner and operator of Oxford Road 66 and was a former employee of the Daily Dispatch. He was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army and retired from the North Carolina National Guard. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Hedgepeth. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Patricia Taylor Padgett; a daughter, Paula P. Vaughan of Henderson; three sons, Craig Padgett and wife Angie of Henderson, Jarrod Padgett and wife Michele of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, and Tim Padgett of Henderson; four sisters, Minnie Ann P. Heath of Jacksonville, Beatrice P. Murray of Jacksonville, Janice P. Brown and husband Robert of Richlands, and Esther Padgett of Jacksonville; two brothers, Elvin L. Padgett and wife Jenny, and Preston R. Padgett, all of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Vaughan; a sister, Doris P. Leary; and three brothers, Gessler Padgett, Harold Padgett, and Hillarie Padgett.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 1524 Glover Street, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be his nephews, Michael Leary, Ellis Leary, Eric Rhodes, Butch Rhodes, Gerald Parker, and Phillip Padgett.
