Mary Kietzman

SWANSBORO -- Mary Buckmaster Kietzman, 91, of Swansboro died March 25, 2014, at Dosher Nursing Home after battling a long illness.
She was born in Swansboro on 7 December 1922. Mary was the daughter of the late Captain Charles and Beatrice (Holland) Buckmaster. A gifted musician and teacher, Mary played the piano and organ for First Baptist Church for many years. Her love of learning and, specifically, the English language was felt by many through the years as first a middle school teacher and then later a high school teacher for the gifted.
Mary attended East Carolina Teachers College obtaining a double major in English and Music. She later received her Master's Degree from East Carolina University. Mary was a charter member of the Onslow County Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.
Mary waited tables at her family-owned Riviera Club restaurant while she sang with the band and entertained many. She also sang and danced at the USO club in Swansboro in patriotic support of our service members.
Mary served on the Swansboro Historic Board and The Bicentennial Committee helping to produce a wonderful celebration of the town she loved.
Mary is survived by her children, Douglas Kietzman of Swansboro; and her daughter, Karen Kietzman Marzilli of Southport; four grandchildren, Thomas Marzilli, Anthony Marzilli and his wife Vanessa, Marisa Marzilli and Christopher Kietzman; and a great grandson, Thomas Marzilli IV; her cousins, Jo Lucille Welspeak, Wanda Hall Howard, Flavius Hall Jr., Sarah Hall Ballard; her nephews, Charles Buckmaster, Bruce Buckmaster, Michael Buckmaster, Bucky (Joseph) Buckmaster, Earl Buckmaster; and niece, Mary JoAnn Buckmaster.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Walter Kietzman; brothers, Charles and Joseph Buckmaster.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29 at Swansboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Harper officiating. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service in the church hall.
