Tommy Mitchell, 59, of Jacksonville, died June 24, 2013 at his home.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at St. Julia AME Zion Church with the Rev. E.C. Dobson officiating. Burial follows at Onslow Memorial Park.
He graduated from Fayetteville State University and was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He was a retired math teacher with Onslow County Schools.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Mitchell of Jacksonville; son, Tommy Darius Mitchell of Alexandria, Va.; stepson, Todd Pickett of Leesburg, Va.; brother, Alfonza Mitchell of Jacksonville; sisters, Florence Mitchell of Fayetteville, Alexis Morgan of Richlands, and Annie Ginyard of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
