George William Ahlsen Jr., 66, of Newport, died on Monday, March 31, 2014.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Ahlsen Sr. and Doris T. Ahlsen.
He grew up in Kinston. After graduation from East Carolina University he served in the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge, he began his career teaching in Kinston at Lenoir Community College. This led to his varied career as a Computer Programmer/Analyst which continued until his retirement in 2012. For most of his adult life he was devoted to the activities of the American Legion. He served tirelessly on many committees and held numerous offices at Post 43.
George is survived by his sister, Georgene A. Stanley and husband Larry Hamilton; two nieces, Jessica and Jennifer Stanley. He leaves behind many lifelong friends and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, Kinston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport.
