She was also a dedicated member of the Eleanor White Dare Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century. She served both societies as excellent and thorough chapter historian and notebook creator. She was a previous member of the Lydia Chapter of Rocky Mount and now a member of Nashville Chapter 332 Order of the Eastern Star.

Jeanette is survived by her loving husband, Earl Closs McIlwean, Jr. and son, William Earl McIlwean of Wilmington, NC. Jeanette loved Earl's family, especially family reunions with her sisters-in-laws, Ila M. White Lewis and husband, Thomas E. Lewis; Burness M. Linker and husband, Nell Linker; brother-in-laws Edgar H. McIlwean and wife Sandra; and Gene P. McIlwean and wife, Nancy.

She was deeply devoted to her two brothers, who both live in Raleigh: Sampson A. Starling, II and Mary Ellis Starling, and Jeremiah P. Starling and John R. Adams; to her nieces, Sarah M. Starling and Elfranko Wessels of New York, Zoe E. Starling of Raleigh, and Anna E. Schweigman and the late David Schweigman of New York; and to her nephew, David R. Starling and April F.
