On Dec. 1, 2012, Jeffrey Sankes, a decorated U.S. Marine, passed away suddenly while sleeping at his home in Jacksonville. Mr. Sankes was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. in 1956. From there, he went on to join the Marine Corps in 1972. As a Marine, he earned multiple awards to include two purple hearts. He served in locations such as Vietnam, Okinawa, and Subic Bay, Philippines, where he met and married his beautiful wife Senny in 1977. They settled in Jacksonville, where he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Sankes served 16 years in the Marine Corps before being medically retired. After the military, he went on to serve as a commander of the Disabled American Veterans and service officer of the VFW. Jeffrey was beloved by all, and will be sorely missed by the community. The viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at Johnson Funeral Home. The memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family invites all of Jeffrey's friends to come and celebrate his life with them at the VFW off Piney Green following the graveside service. Jeff was survived by his wife, Senny; his daughter, Karen Sankes-Ritland; and son, Jason Sankes.
The Guest Book is expired.
God needed another Marine on the gate and now there is another proud one on duty.
