Lori Smith Pierce returned home to be with the Lord on Nov. 17, 2013.
A woman of great faith that touched countless lives and never missed an opportunity to be a living testimony to everyone she met. Her love for family, love for her church family, and her students was contagious. She addressed every challenge, personal or professional, with great passion, great determination and greater love. A teacher by profession that was loved and respected by countless students, parents and co-workers, was teaching us all about living, loving each other, and loving God. As one of her former students wrote to her, "[She was] a perfect teacher in a real world." Now we are all her students and will continue to learn from her love of God and passion for living. She was very proud of her students at Wallace Rose Hill High where she taught Honors English. She was a graduate of East Carolina University and received her Master of Education from Phoenix University.
She is mourned by her husband, Michael Pierce; her children, Zachary Pierce and Candace Pierce; father, Nick Smith; mother, Linda Smith; sister, Stacy DeBarge; niece, Lorin DeBarge; and nephews, Ethan DeBarge and Keith DeBarge Jr.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at Pentecostal Free Will Chapel. Funeral services (or Celebration of Life) will be on the following day at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be sent to Marine Federal Credit Union for Candace (575616) and Zachary (575615).
